ICT can offer help to "develop skills of scientific inquiry and investigation using practical techniques".
In 'what learning and teaching approaches are useful in the sciences' the advice offered includes:
- "in the sciences, effective learning and teaching depends upon the skilful use of varied approaches, including: appropriate and effective use of technology, real materials and living things".
- In this context ICT should be able to support approaches such as "active learning and planned, purposeful play", "development of problem solving skills and analytical thinking skills", "collaborative learning and independent thinking" and "more emphasis on children explaining their understanding of concepts, informed discussion and communication".
In 'how can I make connections within and beyond the sciences?' we are told that "all science teachers will look for opportunities … to work with their colleagues in other areas to plan interdisciplinary studies and a coherent approach to the development of literacy and numeracy skills, aspects of health and wellbeing and ICT"
