There are two very good applications either of which can be used to resize images simply.

This is especially true when you wish to take an image from a digital camera and place it in a word processed document or on the internet, perhaps in your school information site or MyFife card.

Rather than resizing original digital still images in a word processed document do the resizing beforehand using an image manipulation application such as Photoshop where unwanted parts of an image can be removed and the contrast/brightness altered or other editing undertaken to improve the image.If you just need to resize an image quickly without the need for such improvements then use a simple image resizing tool such as Microsoft’s Image Resizer or Photogadget, both of which are free plug-ins available from either the Fife Intranet or via a search on the Internet.

Recommended size:

word processed document - 600 pixels wide

internet page image - 320 pixels wide

Resizing Applications;

Microsoft Image resizer - if you are using a pc with Windows XP

Photogadget - if you are using a pc with Windows 2000.

Both these application and their brief training notes are to be found in section 5, ICT on FISH and instructions are also included in the Fife Open Source website for the two applications in use in Fife schools.
