ICT in Kingsbarns Primary

Jo Rodger

In December 2001 Kingsbarns Primary children and staff were very busy using ICT to make its fortune and to record the results! In an effort to raise money for the school the children produced Christmas cards for sale and the P4-7 class fine-tuned their ICT skills in the process.

The card “12 days of Christmas” was created using WORD. We created a table, an automated shape cut and pasted into each of the 12 cells and then the painstaking free drawing in WORD took place to represent each verse of the carol.

All publicity and letters to parents were attended to by the children using the same program while supplies of card, printing ink and envelopes were costed carefully—the children soon learned what the term profit means!

Tables were drawn up to record sales and the final job was to set up a spreadsheet using Primary Toolkit to work out the bottom line—a true success story in terms of ICT learning and business acumen.
