Using ICT within a mini enterprise project opens up opportunities for creating a professional looking final production.

Why was this work undertaken?

The work undertaken was central to the programme of Enterprise Education in Primary 7 where the children learned to apply skills of literacy, numeracy, aspects of technology, art and design, problem-solving as well as developing their core communication skills through the use of ICT. The outcome of this venture was to provide substantial funding for a final educational excursion to London.

How was it developed?
A Primary 7 Company was created - 'Seven Links' and all work undertaken initiated by the children.
What was the impact on pupils' learning?
Phenomenal! Motivation levels were very high. Children worked to a very high standard across the whole curriculum, supported by a group of staff willing to try out suggestions. Many children recognised that their experience in school would help them develop strengths which would be valued in the world of work. Children truly had ownership of their learning.
What was the impact of teaching strategies?
Flexibility. Work was carefully planned to ensure progression and continuity in learning but was clearly driven by the needs of the Company. The impact on the teaching of writing was particularly evident as was the need to teach a variety of ICT skills to assist children in the creation of their work. Challenging, exciting and fantastic fun!
