Design and Make ideas using Bauplay.

Taking care in choosing technology to meet pupils' needs has proved to be a very rewarding exercise for both staff and pupils.

Why was this work undertaken?

To use ICT as a concrete support/resource to enable less able achievers to fully access a technology task.

How was it developed?

Through pupils' interest in Bauplay and how it could be linked, developed and incorporated into our new environmental Studies Programme.

What was the impact on pupils' learning?

It allowed our less able achievers to manipulate the designs, and in turn, fully explore the design process. The software acted as a scaffold so the pupils could access the process independently.

What was the impact of teaching strategies?

Wider opportunities for the use of higher order questions; for varieties of interaction and allowing pupils to utilise their own learning strategies within a context.

Hardware/software requirements and useful linked websites.

Bauplay software, digital camera, Microsoft Office/Word/PowerPoint, Web National Archive site,
