Why was this work undertaken?
Initially I wanted to prove to myself whether computers were of real value to my pupils, considering their young age ie Primary 2 Class.
How was it developed?
It started as a simple aid to reading using key words on ORT in sentences. The children soon gained enough confidence to use computers to write free stories. They also learned to illustrate them using computer graphics

What was the impact on pupils' learning?

The interaction between children using computers surprised me. Writing stories became a very communal activity. They learned from one another, helping each other with spelling etc. Story writing became a very popular activity at choosing time and extend to include P1 and P3.

What was the impact of teaching strategies?

Computers encouraged the children to consider themselves as "writers". They learnt freely and effortlessly from each other and this was encouraged by using their work as examples of good writing. Correction of punctuation etc are easily implemented on computer.

Hardware/software requirements and useful linked websites.
All classes had a PC in their room but our hardware resources were extremely limited, ranging from old Apple Macs and Acorns to BBC computers. However, these were set up in the infant corridor for use by the 3 infant stages. It looked a bit like a museum of computers, but the basic skills were the same on them all, (keyboard skills, word processing and printing).
