| The photograph
provides a view of the wide range of devices and software available
for use with children with additional needs.
Pupils benefit form the use of
specialist software such as talking word processors, predictive
word processors, on-screen word banks and speech recognition applications.
In addition, alternative devices such as those described in the
Robert Henryson article are much valued by teachers and pupils
alike.
Even the computer's operating
set-up can be modified by choosing the colour combination carefully,
deciding on the keyboard repeat speed and whether or not the mouse
has a trail following its movement across the screen to name but
three options.
Work is underway to enable pupils
to log onto any computer on the school network to receive their
individual settings and software.
