Mini Enterprise -

Business Education

Standard Grade

Principal teacher June Greig has used PowerPoint as an integral tool to enable students to present a summary of their business activities.

Setting pupils tasks comparable to real-life situations is invaluable to their education.

Why was this work undertaken?
To integrate the use of ICT in a practical business sense, ie to show the use of presentation software in a business environment. Pupils would create the presentation and deliver it to their class. The presentation would summarise their business activities thereby reinforcing previous teaching. The delivery of the presentation would also help to develop and improve their communication skills.

How was it developed?
Using information gained form SBEA conferences and talking to other practising teachers a unit was put together taking the pupils step-by-step through the creation of an enterprise and then closing with the presentation and final report.

What was the impact on pupils' learning?
Both practical and theoretical knowledge was reinforced through the mini enterprise allowing pupils to participate in group activities using ICT.
