Surfers wait patiently
for the next big wave in the wide bay. During the day this beach
and many others have full time lifeguards on duty as the tide can
turn quickly and a rip tide can drag bathers outwith their depth
without them realising it is happening. There are many sand banks
just below the surface and if they collapse or shift this can be
very dangerous as happened in the summer of 2005 when in one day
over a 100 people had to be rescued. |
