Marram Grass on sand dune Marram grass is one of the first plants to grow on a sand dune. This dune could be either the embryo dune or the yellow dune. The plant's roots extend quickly under the surface and help stabilise the sand. The sharp leaves are not the favourite food of grazing animals so it survives. The main predator is Man. Sand dunes are popular holiday attractions and throughout Britain the land immediately behind sand dunes is where you will find caravan and camping sites. Around Britain you will also find a considerable number of golf courses, known as links courses. Click here to open an Inspiration file describing sand dune formation.
