Mine above Chapel Porth Bay, St. Agnes, Cornwall |
This tin mine is
perched on the steep cliffs of the north Cornish coast. The red
mound in the foreground is part of the waste extracted from the
mine mixed in with the tin ore. The cliffs extends all the way to
Land's End. The Atlantic Ocean is rolling into the shore. To mine
in such a difficult area must mean that at one time it was profitable
to do so. All the small harbours were hives of activity with ships
docking to take on board the tin not only for British markets but
all over the world. |
