There are a considerable number of applications available under various licence arrangements which make them free to use.
Only a few of the best titles are included in this website as they have proved to be suited to education use.
Open Source - applications which may be copyrighted but where the source code is shared and developers can modify and publish their own version.
Freeware - the copyright is usually retained by the author, the source code is not available but permission is given to distribute the program free of charge (which could include an administration fee but not a fee for the actual application).
Licence agreements in particular GNP and Creative Commons are normally associated with Open Source and Freeware although users must read and comply with the licence conditions when the install a application.
