Assessment
The Fife Education Sevice is very involved in both formative and summative assessment approaches as a means of discovering how well our learners are doing and to provide valuable data to help raise attainment.
Through our partnership with Durham University, we have access to an international set of standardised data used to help predict pupil attainment. This helps us intervene at a very early stage if an individual pupil is falling below predicted levels and provide tailored support. This is part of our raising attainment strategy and a contributory factor in our much improved attainment results. The Fife Education Service and Durham University recently co-hosted a well-attended national conference on ‘assessment for excellence’ with delegates from 30 local authorities in Scotland.

Our relationship with Pearson Fronter has seen the delivery of the e1 MIS and the introduction of more effective pupil performance tracking processes in schools. Pupil performance tracking, using the information from the standardised assessment, pupil predictors, teacher estimates and class test results all build up a picture of how well each student, each class, and each school is progressing is again part of our attainment and wider achievement strategies.
