The results from the senior UK Maths Challenge are in and again there are many successful mathematicians in our school. Most notable was Brett Lindsey (S6) who won a silver award and the best in school prize. Silver awards were also attained by Nick Fisher (S6) and Callum Rearie (S5). Bronze awards were awarded to Ben Logan, Jack Wright, Eilidh Johnston, Scott Yaxley and Kirstin Murie (all S6). In S5 bronze awards were given to Catriona Mcbride, Adam Batesgray, Alistair Bell, Johnathan Failes and Fiona Cuthill. These results are a fantastic achievement in a very competitive competition. These talented students now have something else to add to their CV's and personal statements for UCAS.
Last Friday, Bell Baxter's Charities Group held "Family Fortunes: Teacher Style" in the Games Hall in which teachers throughout the school competed in a game in the style of the famous television game show hosted by School Captain John Allan. The Maths department competed as "The Geeks", Science as "The Jeeds Family", Modern Languages as "Lost in Translation", History as "The Mo-HI-cans" and Support for Learning as "The Dallas's of Southfort" who rose triumphant after going head to head with the Mo-HIcans. The event took place in aid of Children in Need and 226 pound was raised for the charity. Well done to all those involved and thank you to all who parted with their cash for this very worthy cause.
Last week, Cupar Youth Musical Theatre (CYMT) staged a production of "Back to the 80's" in the Cupar Corn Exchange. The cast mainly comprised of Bell Baxter pupils with some of the lead roles played by David Anderson, Laura Geyer, Calum Whytock (all S5) and Ben Leitch (S6). This year's production was Ben's eighth and final show with CYMT and he was happy to end with "The best one of them all!". Our congratulations go to the group on three excellent performances. Next year's show has a lot to live up to!
The China Group would like to thank everyone who donated money to the group's funds during their bag packing stint at Tescos on Saturday. A huge thank you must also go to the staff at Tesco who supported the group during the whole event. The group raised almost 700 pound during the four hours they were at the shop.
