Our School Ethos
At Auchtermuchty we offer and actively foster a warm caring and supportive environment. We achieve this by prioritising partnership between parents, pupils, staff and the wider community. We communicate and consult regularly with all of our stakeholders. We regularly create opportunities to celebrate success, through weekly assemblies with certificates for work and student of the week, displays of children’s work e.g. star writers, items of interest and information regarding school initiatives.

School Uniform
All Fife schools must have a dress code, which encourages pupils to dress in a way, which is appropriate to attendance at school. This dress code must not lead to direct or indirect discrimination on the grounds of race, religion, gender or disability. It is the expectation of the Education Service that parents will support the dress code.
The advantages of pupils conforming to such a code of appropriate school dress include:
- Improved security by aiding identification of pupils within the school making it easier to identify intruders.
- A reduction in bullying and victimisation which can arise from peer pressure to adhere to certain fashion items.
- Helping young people develop a pride in a neat and tidy appearance.
- The creation of a positive image and improved reputation in the local community.
- The promotion of a positive school ethos and sense of identification with and loyalty or sense of belonging to the school.
- The encouragement of a purposeful attitude to work and positive behaviour.
- Raising young people’s awareness of the requirement to dress appropriately for the circumstance, eg. certain work requirements, interviews, etc.
- Assist parents in terms of economic and practical issues.
- Assist the identification of truants in the community.
Clothing which is unacceptable in school would include items which:
- Could potentially encourage factions (e.g. football colours).
- Could cause offence (e.g. anti-religious symbolism or political slogans).
- Could cause health and safety difficulties such as loose fitting clothing or training shoes and in particular items of jewellery.
The pupils at Auchtermuchty are encouraged to dress smartly in school uniform. Poloshirts, sweatshirts and fleeces are all available from the school office.

For physical education all children need gym shoes or trainers, shorts and tee-shirt. For infant children simple and easy to change clothes are best. Buttons, buckles and laces can be time consuming, slip-on gym shoes are best. We would rather your child did not come to school with earrings or other jewellery. If valuables are lost or damaged, the result may be unhappiness and upset, and the wearing of earrings during physical education can be dangerous. Please put names on any items likely to be removed in school to avoid confusion over ownership.
The Parent Teacher Association provide a gym bag for all children.

Fife School Meals - Four Weekly Menu Cycle
The menus below meet the recommended Nutrient Standards laid down by the Scottish Executive. Should your child have specific dietary requirements due to medical or religious grounds please contact us and we will do our utmost to assist. The menus are reviewed and changed annually.
Mrs Holmes, our Headteacher, eats with the children every day and can recommend the tasty and healthy food on offer.
I enjoy our school dinners and find it easy to eat a healthy and balanced meal. I particularly enjoy the Cook’s home-made lasagne and her cheese soufflé. I usually have salad from the salad bar with my main course and as I like fruit I generally have a piece of fruit or a dish of fresh fruit salad for pudding. On hot pudding days I enjoy the apple cake with custard. (Mrs Holmes)
