SCHOOL LOCATION
Auchtermuchty Primary School is in the small town of Auchtermuchty in North East Fife. The school takes its pupils from the town and surrounding area. This year we are delighted to welcome our new pupils from Dunshalt Primary school.

The original building dates from 1900 and has benefited from an extensive and sympathetic refurbishment programme. The classes in the original building have all been upgraded and modernised and a new classroom and kitchen wing has been added. The latest and final phase includes a new administrative wing consisting of a reception area, administration office, headteacher office and meeting room, medical room , staffroom, Janitor’s room and toilets.

We have a thriving and busy Nursery Centre which has a morning and afternoon class with children from the ages of approximately three to six. We are able to offer Wrap Around Care in the form of full day places from 9 am – 3 pm. Please contact the office if you are interested in finding out more about how this works/costs etc.

We are currently in the planning stage of forming our own Out of School Club. This is organised and run by Fife Childcare & Early Years Strategy and the club will be in the school building. It is planned to begin from January 2008 and will be open 3pm – 6pm on schooldays, all day on In-service days and all day most holidays. For further information please contact Scott McClymont, Network Co-ordinator on 01592 414838 or e-mail him at scott.mcclymont@fife.gov.uk.

There are two hutted classrooms, one of which is presently used as a classroom with the other being an all purpose room mainly used for drama and music.

We have a large, airy hall where the children enjoy gym lessons, drama and Assemblies. Over lunchtime the hall becomes a pleasant dining room. We benefit from healthy and nutritious meals which are cooked on the premises.

The children enjoy their playtimes on the tarmac playground and on the large field at the back of the school. They have been working with our local Countryside Ranger, who is also a parent, to develop part of the field into a wildlife garden and outdoor learning area. This is also where our new nursery sensory garden is sited. The school Eco-Council has been very much involved with the development of the field.

We have a well established School Council which meets regularly and enables children from Primary 1 to Primary 7 to be more involved in decision making in the school. They have purchased and organised new playground equipment, developed rules for looking after these new games and toys and put in a successful bid for benches and picnic tables. These are very much enjoyed by all the children.
