Active Schools’ Coordinators in Glenrothes were busy in the Kingdom Shopping Centre this week, encouraging children of all ages to participate in the RUN ROUND FIFE CHALLENGE. Children ran as many laps as they wanted and their totals were added together to run the equivalent distance around Fife , starting and finishing in Glenrothes.
The challenge proved extremely popular with 139 children aged between one and 16 years old taking part and running anything from one lap to 130 laps each. Between them they covered an amazing 4031 laps (202 kilometres). Thirty-seven schools were represented.
On Monday the children ran the equivalent of Glenrothes, through Falkland, Newburgh and Newport-on Tay (60 kilometres); Tuesday, from St Andrews through Anstruther, Buckhaven and Kirkcaldy (75 kilometres); and on Wednesday the circuit was completed with participants running to Inverkeithing, Culross, Dunfermline, Cowdenbeath and back to Glenrothes (67 kilometres).
This three-day event helped to raise awareness of the importance of physical activity for children’s health, as well as demonstrating that team work can get you a long way!
