Active Communities

HPS Fife - NewsActive Communities is a Sportscotland funded initiative which is driven through Sports Development Widenining Opportunities Officer. The project was established to look particularly at increasing levels of physical activity and help improve health and well being in Fifes’ regeneration areas.

The project aims to increase opportunities for the most disadvantaged groups and the people who face the greatest health inequalities. National and local data would indicate that health inequalities are significantly worse in regeneration areas and is why the investment is being used to encourage people to adopt healthier lifestyles by improving access to local facilities, improve support for the development of local activity programmes and through creating opportunities for leadership and coaching development create a better community infrastructure to support this longer term.

Aim:

  • To provide the communities in Fifes designated regeneration areas with affordable and accessible opportunities to take part in sport and active recreation and to develop more healthy and active lifestyles.

Objectives:

  • Evaluate current provision, gaps and barriers around physical activity by engaging with existing workers, voluntary organisations and communities to determine needs.
  • Identify and target key groups which experience the greatest health inequalities with a view of increasing and sustaining levels of physical activity.
  • Develop appropriate action plans through liaising with communities and partners to identify needs and barriers to participation.
