Health and Wellbeing Phase 3 Accreditation Framework
All schools have received their updated copy of the Health & Wellbeing Accreditation Framework Phase 3. Copies have also been distributed widely to contributing service.
Twilight Sessions: Its all about you: A School Health and Wellbeing Co-ordinator
One of the key elements of the development of Fife's Health and Wellbeing Framework is to provide support to the named School Health and Wellbeing Co-ordinator (SHWBC). Since the dissemination of the Health and Wellbeing Accreditation Framework Phase 3 and the Food Outwith School Lunch Policy the need for this support has become more evident.
Twilight sessions were arranged across the 4 education areas.
They were interactive and provide the opportunity to bring staff together from their local area to share practice, establish what individual roles are and demystify the Health Promotion Nutrition Act 2007 by providing practical demonstrations. It has also provided the opportunity for co-ordinators to establish local support networks that will prevent staff from feeling isolated and improve the sharing of innovative practice.
Following on from the sessions the SHWBC who attended now have email addresses for their colleagues across Fife. A collated summary of information from the session has also been distributed.
It is proposed to continue offering these sessions around different topic areas within curriculum for excellence.
Curriculum for excellence: health and wellbeing
Materials supporting the health and wellbeing experiences and outcomes are now available on the website and can be accessed through the curriculum for excellence folder.
The material in this section provides examples of progression, cross curricular links and partnership working that may help education staff and all contributing services in taking forward the health and wellbeing outcomes.
The suggestions provided to support the outcomes are not prescriptive and can be changed to meet the needs of pupils/school.
Policy Development
Fife Council - Education Service is in the process of developing a Health and Wellbeing Strategy that provides advice and guidance for education establishments in taking forward Health and Wellbeing across the whole school community.
The purpose of the strategy will be to take forward the values, purposes and principles in Curriculum for Excellence: Health and Wellbeing and to continue with taking forward health promotion activities within the whole school community. Partnership working is core to this strategy
Young Peoples Website
The website is being developed in partnership with Fife Council Education Service and NHS Fife for young people aged between 12-18years. The topic areas will provide up to date relevant information in relation to Health & Wellbeing.
The site has been tested in identified Secondary Schools and via the Big Shout and the Youth Forum during June 2010. Once reviewed and amended the site will be available to secondary school pupils and the general public via the World Wide Web.
My Art Project For Life (MAP)
What is MAP for Life?
It is a joint initiative between Dundee University School of Nursing and Midwifery and Fife Council Education Service.
MAP for Life provided primary 4, 5 and 6 school pupils from the Viewforth cluster in Kirkcaldy, who wish to take part, with an insight into the world of nursing, health and wellbeing and global citizenship.
Following discussion with their teachers and university staff, pupils were invited to draw/paint a picture related to nursing, health & wellbeing and global citizenship. Participating schools from the Viewforth Cluster were provided with the opportunity to submit their pictures to a competition. Prizes will be presented to the winning pupils and schools at an award ceremony to be held at Dundee University Fife Campus. The pupils parents/guardians, and teachers will also be invited to attend. Copies of the winning entries will be framed and displayed in the relevant schools, the NHS, the University, and selected public locations. The paintings will be uploaded onto the MAP for Life Picture Gallery, to which winning entries will be added year-on-year
Children’s Rights Strategy Group
A very successful launch of the Children’s Rights Strategy was held in Auchterderran centre on 20 th November. Children and Young People from across Fife were involved in the development of the strategy and were actively involved on the day as participants and presenters.
The key note speaker was Minister for Children and Early Years Adam Ingram. Other speakers from across Scotland also presented with the event ending in panel discussion with representatives from across Fifes statutory and voluntary sector.
This strategy promotes children’s participation and ultimately their health and well being as responsible citizens in society. Who have well developed self-esteem to make the right choices about their health and wellbeing.
The strategy can be found in the publications folder in this website.
This is a snap shot of some of the activities being undertaken.
