The School Milk Project

The School Milk ProjectThe School Milk Project is delighted to support Fife’s Health Promoting School Website.

Claire Doyle, facilitator for DairyCo’s School Milk Project in Scotland is delighted to endorse the great work in Fife Council schools related to traditional milk drinking schemes and all milk in schools. The benefits of drinking school milk are numerous and our Project delivers important messages:

  • We should try to have three dairy products a day.
  • Milk is full of vitamins, minerals and protein.
  • Calcium in milk is good for bones and teeth.
  • Drinking milk and exercise is important for strong, healthy bones.
  • Milk is low in fat and very good for you as part of a balanced diet.
  • Milk is nearly 90% water so is good for re- hydration.
  • Milk is a really good energy giving drink.

Fife schools continue to work with parents to ensure that milk holds an integral place within the school day. Importantly, this message doesn’t stop in secondary schools as milk is also available.

Claire visits schools to talk with the teachers, children and parents directly to remind children where their milk comes from. She also works with other agencies to promote dairy farm visits or arrange for the Project mascot, Charlotte the Cow to attend schools and events. The School Milk Project is part of the not-for-profit dairy farming organisation DairyCo. Free educational resources about healthy diet and where milk comes from are available on www.schoolmilk.co.uk in the resources section.
