Notebook Questions

Q. How can I use the same page more than once and modify the content?

This is especially useful for work created for different groups in a class.
  1. Create the most complex level first and check it is in the order you want.
  2. Click on Page Sorter, then the pull-down menu arrow and choose the Infinite cloner option.
  3. Modify the cloned page to suit and repeat step 2 if needed.
Q. I wish to make multiple copies of an object (image from the gallery or text or shape placed on the work area of the page) but I don’t like going back to the gallery all the time as it makes it slower for my class.
  1. Select your object and place it on the page.
  2. Click on the object and use the pull-down menu arrow.
  3. Click on Infinite Cloner.
  4. Now drag as many copies from the original as you need.
  5. Remember to switch off the Infinite Cloner on the original object once you are finished.
You might want to keep the Infinite Cloner switched on for pupil use. Have a look at pages 6 and 7 of the Notebook Software Activity Guide for ideas on possible maths and a language activities.

Some Hints and Tips (more are available with associated Notebook files based on CPD courses and Fife teachers' work on set tasks)
  • Use large font sizes on prepared pages - stand at the back of your own classroom and check that you can see the text.
  • Spread your work over several pages, rather than trying to squeeze it all onto one page.
  • On the net, use the largest font size setting: in Internet Explorer go to the toolbar > View > Text Size > Largest
  • In Word, expand the size of the word document (e.g. change view to 125% or a size that shows the text clearly across the room.) You could also use a larger font size but this can affect the screen layout and any print-outs.
  • Under the View menu select Web layout - now when you increase the zoom to any % the words will always wrap to the screen and you won't have to scroll horizontally
  • To reduce screen glare it is better to switch to a darker background colour. Depending on the colour chosen the text colour might have to be changed to a lighter colour.
  • When looking back from the whiteboard do so from either side of the board as you will be outside the projector's beam.
These points include Hints and Tips offered by Ros Walker, University of Hull and Keith Edwards, Birmingham Council.
