Creating new notebook files quickly

Creating new Notebook files quickly.

New files can be created by using some excellent online resources and Notebook’s screen capture tool.

Visit http://www.senteacher.org/ and click on the Printables tab to reach a comprehensive range of printable worksheets, handouts and teaching aids most of which can be customised to suit a range of learners.

Let’s look at two examples:

Sample 1 Missing Links

Choose this option from the Printables page and, once loaded, choose whatever number range you wish and the exercise will be amended. Now, instead of printing the page, we will transfer it into a SMART Notebook file.

Method:

  • Make sure Notebook is loaded.
  • From the Tool Bar click on the Screen Capture tool (camera)
  • Make sure the Capture to new page option is checked.
  • Click back to the Missing Links exercise page and choose the screen capture’s left hand tool and mark out the area to be captured and, once the mouse is released, this area wil be added automatically into the open Notebook file as a new page.
  • The image can be moved on the page and locked (from the Object menu). And text added to set an exercise or pupils could be asked to come to the SMART Board and enter the missing numbers using the Creative pens.
  • Open up the sample Complete the Strings file created using this exercise.

Sample 2 Dominoes

In this sample the screen will be captured in separate segments onto the same Notebook page.

On the Printables page in senteacher.org.uk choose the Dominoes exercise.

  • Once loaded, choose an appropriate exercise from the choice on offer (coins, digits, fractions etc).
  • The different dominoes can be copied individually into Notebook with the intention of converting them into an interactive exercise.
  • Make sure the Screen Capture tool (camera) is active.
  • This time uncheck the capture to new page option as we want all the images located on the same Notebook page.
  • Drag the tool around one of the dominoes and release the mouse to transfer the image into Notebook.
  • Repeat step 5 for all the dominoes.
  • Once they have all been copied click on the Notebook file and rearrange the tiles by using each object’s rotation tool.
  • Add some text to set the exercise.
  • Open up the sample Dominoes file created by Sam Nicholson of Foulford Primary.
