Online Tutorial

The Classroom suite has many advantages such as:

  • the teacher being able to send Notebook files to the pupils and receive their completed attempts in return
  • a class tracking system to note completion or otherwise of the set tasks
  • the ability for the teacher to lock all pupils' netbooks so they must stop what they are doing
  • the ability to use the Classroom suite to run polls or quizzes in the same way some schools use hand held voting sets, but the netbook leyboard sends the response!
  • the ability for the teacher to lock the pupil's internet access down to only those sites s/he wished them to visit in any particular session.

This site has other ideas to encourage children to be active learners.

A pilot project is underway in six Fife primary schools  (November 2010 - ) where every P6 child in the six schools has been issued with their own Toshiba netbook. The software installed has been mostly open source (Open Office, Pivot, Freemind) and includes Internet Explorer 8 as the main use is to access online content on a regular basis such as glow, Education City and each school's own Radiowaves station. This is achieved through wireless connectivity and benefits from the 7 hour battery life in each netbook meaning 'no trailing cables'!
