Online Activities to support pupils during severe weather/study leave/outside school hours
If Fife schools are closed we would encourage pupils who have online access to the internet to consider visiting the links listed below to enable them to become involved in a self study approach to their education. This is especially relevant to senior pupils enrolled in various SQA courses.
Many Higher and Advanced Higher courses are provided for via the internet through the Scholar program as well as Intermediate 2 Maths. Pupils studying most subjects can access their Scholar accounts on scholar.hw.ac.uk which provides tutorials, examination questions and E-assessments. Furthermore BBC, Channel 4 and Learning and Teaching Scotland websites provide very good materials for revision. Pupils who have access to their Glow accounts will find a range of information that will be very helpful. Primary schools pupils can also access a range of leaning opportunities on Radiowaves.”
The Fife Education website has a number of links for different secondary subjects on this site and primary pupils can access the same curricular home page they do in their school if they visit the Fife Primary Website for Pupils which leads onto a number of other Fife sites.
Secondary pupils studying science will find content at the Fife Education Energy site and the Fife Supporting School Science site.
BBC Scotland’s Learning Scotland site provides an in-depth coverage of the Scottish curriculum and you should also consider the Channel 4 Learning site.
For Maths and the three sciences skoool.co.uk comes highly recommended - yes it is spelt with ooo!

The glow national intranet offers a wide range of resources. If your school has issued a glow user account then you may be able to log in from home to https://secure.glowscotland.org.uk/login/login.htm
There are more activities being added to the Fife Council's Pupil home page in glow. It is well worth a visit.
A growing number of Fife teachers have created their own glow groups for their classes and have been posting their work online.
Maths from the Manga High site which from the summer of 2011 is also accesed from within glow.Over 70 Fife schools have a subscription to Education City which offers excellent resources for the Scottish curriculum. Education City covers literacy, numeracy and science at Early to Level 2 (Curriculumfor Excellence).
Education City is a subscription service so you need to use the login you were given in school.
A recent addition in the 2011/2012 session has been the uptake in schools subscribing to Espresso, mostly as part of a school cluster initiative.
Finally, remember your school’s own Radiowaves station to listen to audio podcasts and to view uploaded animations and videos. More information on Radiowaves is to be found on Fife Educaiton's Digital Literacy and ICT website.
