Standard diagram mode version with notes, images and hyperlinks

This image shows the first attempt at reproducing the original Coasts Inspiration file (7.5 diagram version) using version 8's mind map option.

The layout was decided by the application itself. All I had to do was type Coasts as the main idea, reduce the 4 branches to two (Physical and Human), click on each branch in turn and choose Rapid Fire to first create the sub topics (Erosion, Wave Action etc.) and again for each of these headings' sub topics. The branches all overlapped initially, but this was ignored until the entries in a topic were complete then all I had to do was to rearrange the branches to give the layout shown above. Finally, the line thickness was reduced to improve clarity (selected from the icon at the foot of the Inspiration screen - not shown here). For clarity, this version does not have the hyperlinks to additional resources contained in the original - please either choose the standard diagram version button (opposite) or click here to move into this separate part of this website.

Nearly every entry has an associated Note attached containing text describing the feature and, where possible, a photograph of a typical example. Just click on any topic then on its Note icon to read the text as shown here for the note attached to cliffs -

A new feature in version 8 is the addition of a second icon at the top left of the Note window. This double edged arrow is the Optimiser note size tool.

Just click on it so that the next time the Note is opened all the contents will be viewed in the one frame, rather than in earlier versions where the vertical and horizontal scroll bars had to be used.

As an alternative to the Mind Map View you can switch to Outline View and the topic and the text and images within any attached notes will appear as this example demonstrates.

.It is also a straightforward task to transfer the file to a word processor, the default being Microsoft Word on Fife school computers.
