German Expansion in the 1930s
Hitler was an aggressive leader and was determined to extend Germany's borders to include all German speakers initially and eventually to seek out 'lebensraum' in the east.

The image shows the main events in this decade.Initially Hitler reclaimed land lost to Germany as a result of the Treaty of Versailles (1918) signed at the end of World War 1. After this success he convinced Austria to join Germany and then sought the removal of the Sedenten Germans and their land from Czecoslovakia - the dramatic events of 1938.
