Community Use
           

Community Use has been established in Kirkcaldy High School for 16 years. During this time, the Centre programme has developed in response to the public needs, concentrating on the educational, recreational and social requirements of the local community.

Norrie Lockhart is the full-time Head of Community Use.

Mon – Fri 6.00pm – 10.30pm
Saturday 10.00am – 2.30pm
Sunday 10.30am – 3.00pm

St Andrew’s High School, which is also part of Community Use, is open:

Mon – Thurs 6.00pm – 10.00pm

Sports Facilities
Kirkcaldy High School boasts a full size floodlit synthetic pitch on the playing fields and four badminton courts indoors while St Andrews High School offers a games hall.

Inside: Sports Hall (4 badminton courts), 2 School Gyms, Weights/Fitness Area, Hockey Pitches, Squash Court, Table Tennis, Assembly Hall, Meeting Rooms, Specialised Classrooms and Café.
Outside: There exist Tennis Courts, Football, Rugby and Hockey Pitches, Athletics training, Floodlit training area and plenty of car parking.

St Andrew’s High School
Teaching Swimming Pool, 2 School Gyms, Games Hall and Assembly Hall.

Programme
Sports Activities

Five-a-side Football, Roller Hockey and Badminton are the main indoor sports in the centre. Basketball, netball, gymnastics, fitness and martial arts are popular while adult and children’s swimming classes at St Andrew’s High School are always well attended.

Classroom Usage
Many groups use classrooms for meetings or rehearsals – choirs, orchestras, operatic societies, football referees, etc all use classrooms for weekly meetings. SQA Vocational Modules are also available.

 

Children’s Classes
Classes are busy and include swimming, badminton, art, football, netball, golf, short tennis, computing, drama, dance and arts and crafts.

Playschemes
Playschemes are run at Easter, October and Summer for primary school children and S1 and S2. They run daily from 9.00am to 4.30pm including supervision during lunchtime.

Family Night
Friday night is a very popular family night which runs during the winter months. Parents and children enjoy a varied programme of activities throughout the evening from 6.15pm to 9.15pm.

Community Use at Kirkcaldy High School is part of the Community Learning Plan trying to develop their programme around the community needs and requirements.

Outreach Work
Community Use at Kirkcaldy High School also haas strong links with ctachmment area Primary Schools, Victoria Community Project, Argos Centre, Linton Lane, East Kirkcaldy Initiativer and West Kirkcaldy Forum and YMCA.

One Off Events
Better facilities, due to the refurbishment of the school, have made the school an attractive facility for big events. Workshops for groups such as Scripture Union, Fife Young Consumers and the Playgroup Association have been very successful. Kirkcaldy High School has hosted the Scottish Primary Schools Cross Country for the last ten years, coping comfortably with 1,800 runners and 5,000 spectators.
