Eco Schools

The Eco-Schools programme is an international initiative designed to encourage whole-school action for the environment. It is a recognised award scheme that accredits schools who make a commitment to continuously improve their environmental performance. It is also a learning resource that raises awareness of environmental and sustainable development issues throughout activities linked to curricular areas.

Fife has a long association with the scheme and the first school to receive Green flag status was Dunino Primary, just south of St. Andrews.

As well as primary and secondary schools nurseries and playgroups have become involved.

The Scottish Eco Schools website provides more information on this scheme and you can find out the Green Flag status of any Fife school there. By 2011 all Fife schools were registered with the Eco Schools programme.
