The RRSA (Rights Respecting School Award) is a UNICEF scheme based on the United Nations Convention of Rights for the Child (CRC). The RRSA recognises achievement in putting the CRC at the heart of our school’s planning, policies, practice and ethos. It is not only about teaching children about their rights but about reinforcing the universal principles of behaviour and values within their society. Within Scotland you should viist Scotland's Commissioner for Children and Young People's website which covers your rights. |

Most Fife schools have registered with UNICEF and their Pupil Council is working towards achieving the Recognition of Commitment (ROC). Fife schools have developed their own Rights and Responsibilities Charter.
The RRSA will align a school's ethos and codes of conduct with the collective consensus throughout the planet – as virtually every country in the world has agreed upon the convention. According to new research published by UNICEF UK, teaching children about their rights can reduce exclusions, improve behaviour, raise attainment and make for more mature, responsible students. At a rights respecting school, students are taught to distinguish between wants, needs and rights.
