Biology is the Science which studies living organisms and how they interact with each other and their environment. Considerable advances are regularly being made in the newer aspects of Biology, such as biotechnology and genetics. Many of these advances are of significant benefit to the lives of humans. The aim of the Biology department is to help pupils develop their knowledge of the fundamental and newer aspects of this subject so that they can understand and appreciate the living world they are part of.
There are four well resourced laboratories within the Biology department which provide pupils with a positive learning environment.
Pupils studying Standard Grade Biology attend three periods a week. Pupils studying Intermediate 2, Higher Biology, Higher Human and Advanced Higher Biology attend six periods a week.
There are four members of staff including a head of faculty and two teachers who have a pupil support role, within the school.
