Business and enterprise are at the heart of national growth and development and this is reflected
in the important role that Business Education plays in the curriculum. The provision of Business
Education offers opportunities for individuals to develop the crucial skills and knowledge which
allow them to access, understand and contribute to the dynamic and complex business and
information environment. Whatever the career pathway, Business Education can provide a
valuable experience to enhance individual effectiveness.
The use of information technology is of increasing importance within education, the world of work
and a range of leisure pursuits. Information technology is an important aspect of all courses
offered in the department. Departmental policy is to make pupils familiar with up-to-date
technology and to give them hands-on experience in using technology. Regular hands-on
experience is of vital importance if pupils are to have a real understanding of the use of IT and the
role it will play in their future lives.
The department comprises of 2 multifunctional classrooms accommodating practical and theory
classes. In addition to this there is a small staff resource base and work area.
S2 attend 1 period a week
S3 & 4 attend 3 periods a week
S5 & 6 attend 6 periods a week
Class sizes in S2 and Administration courses are limited to 20.
Business Management classes can accommodate more than 20 pupils.
There are 3 full time members of stafft, including a head of department.
