The Chemistry department aims to develop skills of understanding, problem-solving and practical
investigation. Pupils are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning. We hope to
produce responsible, well-informed scientists who have an enthusiasm for their subject and the
ability to communicate this to others.
Currently there are four teaching laboritories. One is reserved primarily for Advanced Higher project
work. The other three are equipped with Whiteboards and data projectors enabling multi media
presentations.
Class sizes are a maximum of 20 and senior classes are usually smaller and this allows for a
greater level of one-to-one teaching.
S3/4 pupils have 3 periods a week.
S5 pupils have 6 periods a week.
S6 pupils have 3 to 6 periods a week.
There are 3 full time members of staff including a head of department.
