The aims of the Computing department are:

  • To help pupils acquire the computer-related knowledge and skills required to enable them

    to participate as members of a modern technological society.

  • To raise pupil aspirations and attainment within the department.

  • To provide pupils with skills and understanding which enable them to make effective use of

    computer technology in other subject areas.

  • To respond to pupils interest in learning about computer technology.

  • To develop general learning skills through the use of computers.

  • To contribute to pupils technological education

  • To enhance the curriculum and the teaching and learning process across all subjects by

    the use of computer technology.

 

The department comprises of three traditional classrooms and a smaller room for staff and

individual pupil use.  There are fifty-five computers in the department.  All computers are linked to

the school fileserver and all can print through the network to mono laser printers and a colour laser

printer.  There are four mono laser printers, once colour laser printer, three data projectors, one

interactive whiteboard, seven scanners, two digital cameras and two video cameras in the

department.  All computers have access to the internet.

 

There are no more than 20 pupils in any class.

In S1 and S2 pupils have one period a week.  Standard Grade classes, in S3 and S4, are

timetabled for 3 periods a week.  Senior pupils following exam courses are allocated 6 periods per

week.

 

 There are three full time teachers, including a head of department.
