The Home Economics department encourage pupils to be all they can be.  The subject is within the

technological mode and involves a wide range of activities designed to meet the needs of all pupils

in both theory and practical work.  The subject emphasises the need for teamwork, promoting

awareness of inter-dependence and a sense of responsibility which will be of benefit in adult life,

irrespective of lifestyle or occupation.

 

The department comprises 4 food preparation rooms, 2 textiles rooms and one ICT/resources

room.

 

A maximum of 20 pupils in any one class.  In S3/S4 national qualification exam classes numbers

are often smaller.  Senior classes generally comprise 10/12 pupils.  There can be composite

classes of Higher / Intermediate 2.

S1 pupils have 1 double period a week.

S2 pupils are timetabled for 1 period a week.

S3 and S4 pupils following national qualification exam courses are allocated 1 double period and 1

single period throughout the year.

S3 and S4 pupils following non-certificated Short Courses are allocated 3 periods for half of the

year.

Senior pupils following national qualification exam courses are allocated 4 single periods and 1

double period a week.

Pupils in the ASN department attend for 1 period a week throughout the year with an additional

period for half of the year.
