Woodmill’s Learning Support department is committed to the effective inclusion of all pupils in the
life of the school. Staff in the department provide support at all ages and stages to make sure that
the additional support needs of any youngster does not prevent them gaining access to a broad,
balanced and appropriate curriculum.
Learning Support staff provide direct subject teaching; work cooperatively in classrooms; extract
small groups; provide curricular advice and guidance to subject staff; and administer the SQA exam
arrangements for those with specific learning difficulties.
The department runs a successful Morning Reading club during registration time. This is aimed at
reluctant readers and we hope to both improve pupils reading skills and foster an enthusiasm for
and an enjoyment of reading. We also provide a lunchtime club for vulnerable pupils.
The department has three full time teachers, two part-time and two pupil support assistants.
There is a staff base and two classrooms.
