The Mathematics department aims to ensure that all pupils acquire not only a functional numeracy
but can also go on to describe, tackle and solve problems which require the use of mathematical
knowledge and techniques. Pupils are encouraged to see mathematics as referring to real
problems arising from real situations and, therefore, a very practical and useful subject. Pupils will
learn to think and evaluate and the skills which they acquire will stand them in good stead whether
in employment or further study.
