The department aims to:
- provide an enjoyable, caring and supportive environment for staff and pupils which will
allow staff to maximise their personal and professional development and allow pupils to
develop their potential as successful learners, confident individuals, effective contributors
and responsible citizens within the community.
- maximise the quality and effectiveness of learning and teaching.
- provide pupils with the opportunity to feel a sense of physical, mental and emotional well-
being through an active curriculum.
- promote respect for self and others by encouraging attainment and achievement for all
within the physical education curriculum.
- provide a curriculum that ensures all pupils enjoy a meaningful and challenging
educational experience.
- contribute in a positive manner to whole school ethos and fulfilment of the school aims.
The PE department consists of: 1 Games Hall, 2 Gymnasia, 1 Fitness Room, 1 Swimming Pool, Use of Assembly Hall, 1 Astroturf Pitch and
Grass Pitches and Athletics area
In S1 – S4 pupils have 2 periods per week throughout the year.
Certificate classes in S3 and 4 are 3 periods a week, plus 2 periods of core physical education.
In S5 and 6 pupils have the option of choosing the following courses which are 6 periods a week:
Higher or Intermediate 2 Physical Education
Higher or Intermediate 2 Performance Physical Education
Higher Dance
There are5 members of staff including a head of department, plus 1 who teaches Additional
Support Needs pupils exclusively.
