Physics is often seen as the ‘fundamental science’ because is deals with the fundamental laws of
the Universe such as matter, energy, space and time and all their interactions. Discoveries in
Physics underpin all of modern science and technology and there are close and obvious links
between physics and other subjects such as engineering, technology and mathematics. The
Physics department in Woodmill aims to provide a stimulating and fun environment in which pupils
will enjoy the challenge of learning how the world around them works.
The department has 3 labs, 2 which are newly refurbished with integrated whiteboards and data
projectors.
There are three members of staff including an NQT.
Classes are no bigger than 20 pupils. In S3 and S4 pupils attend 3 periods a week and in S5 and
S6 they attend 6 periods a week.
